Harl, Harling A form of render in which a mixture of cement or slaked lime and coarse sand or fine gravel is applied to (traditionally hurled at)  a masonry or brick wall. For the best effect the mixture should be dashed against the wall. The hard finish obtained by the use of cement can be damaging to the underlying masonry or brickwork.
