There was a vogue for centrally-planned churches in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, but with rare exceptions the fashion lapsed until the post-war period, when a fair number were built. Most were polygonal, but at least one was circular on plan. In most cases the roofs were covered with roofing felt or copper.
